I'm a bad blogger, I know... and I don't really have time to sit here and post a big huge update either.  Ack.. baby #2 gets the shaft already!

Just wanted to share that it's a GIRL and she's beautiful and healthy!!!! :)

Had another routine appt today.  I got to actually *listen* to the heartbeat today for the first time. :)  What a wonderful feeling.  I recorded it on my iPhone and if I could share I would.  I sent it to Chris at work and it gave him goosebumps, he said.  :)  It was 160 BPM.  She also changed my due date in the computer and wrote it in as 11/8 instead of 11/9... sigh... whatever.  11/8 is Cadence's birthday lol.  I won't have this baby on that date anyways so I don't care what date they say I'm due.

They told me all my labs were great.  Even that dreaded 24 hour urine collection test was good... amen to not doing THAT again!

My next ultrasound will be at 20 weeks at which point I should be able to find out the gender.  Keep your fingers crossed!!  I'm looking forward to feeling the babe move between now and then as well.  I go back for another quick check in two weeks!

Yup... you read the title correctly!  I went in for my ultrasound on Friday and the doctor pushed my due date to November 9th now so I have to do week 10 all over again, haha.  Everything was great at the scan and we saw the beautiful heartbeat flickering away at 163 beats per minute (BPM).  I have pictures but I will need to see about getting them scanned in.  Really, they are just pictures of a chicken nugget-ish looking thing LOL.  Baby is so small still it was hard for the tech to get good pictures.  We saw the baby moving its arms at us but when she went to take photos they wound up being blurry blob pictures.  We'll take what we can get until Baby gets bigger though! :)

Cadence was along to see the baby as well and she was tickled pink to see Baby waving at her! ;)  She loved it and sat pretty patiently through the scan.

As for me.. it was painful!  I forgot how hard they have to push on you to get good views!!!  Worth it in the end, absolutely! :)

10w3d

I forgot to update last week after my first OB appt.  Already getting behind, not cool! :)

So, Thursday, I hauled my whole family in with me to my appt.  I figured at 9w3d I would for sure be able to hear a heartbeat and Chris insists on being there with me the first time I hear it.  That part isn't annoying, it's sweet, but the fact is -- we didn't get to hear it.  She didn't even try!!  I was beyond bummed, Cadence was beyond bored, and Chris was just, well, Chris.  He always stays calm and "whatever" in most every situation.  They were kind enough to order me an ultrasound and I was lucky enough to get a slot on Friday, tomorrow, at 8:15.  I'll be too tired to even worry about being tired.

They ordered a bunch of labs from me as well.  I went down and got about 5 vials of blood drawn and then they handed me a big brown jug and a "hat" for the toilet.  Oh man.. I have the joy of collecting 24 hours worth of urine.  I'm doing that today so I can bring it in first thing tomorrow morning... they want it fresh.. eww.  I'm sticking pretty close to home today because of it though... don't want to have to go when I'm out and have to rush home... nasty.  Enough talking about that.  Being pregnant and having to deal with a jug full of urine is not a good combination.

She did a quick internal exam since I had my annual in January.  She also gave me a breast exam and that was actually the worst part because of how sensitive they are right now... ack!  All was well though, ultimately.

So, hopefully I'll be back with some cute little bean pictures tomorrow!!! :)  Stay tuned! :)

A photo of how small the needles are that I use with breakfast and dinner.  TINY!!!

Saw the diabetic educator again today.  I wasn't supposed to see her until next week, Tuesday, but she had me call with my blood sugar numbers and wanted me to come back in today to (re)learn how to use insulin again.  My numbers are good for a diabetic but not good for a pregnant diabetic.

Chris is in Las Vegas on vacation with my brother and my brother's brother-in-law so I trucked Cadence in with me.  To my surprise she came as close as she could get while I gave myself a shot of saline and asked after, "Can I see the blood?!"  LOL!  Little gross baby!!!  She was very curious! :)  I was glad she saw it in a doctor's office instead of just all of the sudden to see me doing it at home.  She knows it's important this way.

For my own record, I take 10 units of long acting insulin in the morning, 8 units of Novalog with breakfast and dinner, and 20 units of long acting before bed.  Might possibly add a dose with lunch eventually but my numbers didn't show a need at the moment.

So I got my stash of supplies and started taking insulin with dinner tonight.  I could see the difference in my number after dinner already.  I'm genuinely glad.  Shots don't hurt... they really, really don't.  You would laugh if you tried it.  The needle is SO small and thin you honestly don't even know it's in there.  No sweat.  I got a little worried about it but when I did it for the first and second times I remembered how much of a cake walk those shots really are. :)  Mmmm... cake.

I'll go back again on Tuesday, as planned, to see her again and possibly tweak the dosage a bit more.  After that I see my OB on April 1.  I will no longer see the diabetic educator at that point since our insurance is changing ON April 1.  I purposely made that appointment for that day, smart lady.. I know!  I hope, hope, hope to hear that sweet little heartbeat on the 1st!!!!  Cross your fingers for me! :)

Officially official!

I've known I am pregnant for a couple weeks now.  I've been waiting to make an official blog post until I had doctor's confirmation.  Something about getting that "positive" from them was really important to me.

I had my first pregnancy appointment yesterday.  I had my lapband emptied at one (protocol for my clinic in case of vomiting), went over my diabetes in another, and saw a nutritionist to go over a diabetic pregnancy diet again.  Since it's been 5 years since I was pregnant last, this is all very new again.

Things are going pretty smooth right now.  I'm no more tired than I am usually and am *knock on wood* not feeling sick or nauseous.  So far, just my breasts feel super tender to the touch and feel "heavier" than normal.  I feel like they need support 24 hours a day if that makes sense.  I had to explain to Cadence that she had to be gentle on me.  She was running at me to hug me and smacking me around in the process (to put it lightly) and it was almost excruciating.

Exercise has had to take on a new method lately.  I had been running but with being so sore up top, that just couldn't happen anymore.  I've taken to the elliptical which is a lot less impact.  I still feel a bit sore when I start going but it gets easier and I do about 30 minutes, three times a week.  I also do a strength training session once a week for 30 minutes.  I've grown to really like the elliptical.  In the beginning, I begged to get off after 10 minutes.  Then I did 20 and eventually worked my way up to 30.  I do remember the days when I couldn't do 5 minutes on that thing.

No changed in my clothes or really in my weight yet.  Totally normal and, man, would I ever be in trouble if I started gaining weight already!!! :)

I'm 6 weeks and 1 day today, btw.  In the future this will be abbreviated as 6w1d.  I should be getting an ultrasound in the next month or so to determine a more exact due date but for now based on my last menstrual period, my due date is November 1.

I'll be back with new news as it happens!! :)
